St.Bridget’s: An Eco-congregation Church.   Green Sheet no.23

 

Here is a brief summary of the developments and contributions that have been made possible so far in our combined efforts for the Eco-congregation award.

·   If you have large amounts of cardboard, take it to ABC Together, where they will recycle it. They employ people with mental health problems who would otherwise find it difficult to find work. Tel; 677 4777

·   Sales of environmentally aware cleaning products every Sunday in Church centre at very keen prices. Sue Harrison 625 8535

·   Collection of your used household batteries from church for safe disposal on your behalf, Kathrin Holme and Price’s Electricians our local shop have good deals on rechargeable batteries; 632 3224

·   Collection of used water filters for return to manufacturer and recycling: tel. Liz Ashley, 625 5008

·   Envelopes for sending off used ink cartridges for recycling, profit going to charity, pick them up from; Eco-congregation file at the back of church.

·   Collection of old spectacles for refurbishment use by those in third world countries: tel. John Dewsbury 625 7660 or drop them in at any doctor’s surgery or opticians. The RSPB will take your unwanted binoculars for the same purpose; tel: 01767 680 551

·   Gifts of continual giving for birthdays or weddings: information from Traidcraft, Plan intl, Oxfam, Send a cow; 0845 660 4670, International tree foundation, 01342 712536 info in the Eco-congregation file.

·     Collection of good household items for re-use and distribution: 0151 625 0330

·     Conservation churchyard area for nurturing of our local wildlife and fauna.

·     A good range of donated magazines on a variety of subjects available at the back of church for you to take and pass on .

·     Facility for you to donate unwanted paint for use in social centres, schools and charitable organisations; 0113 234 8777

·     Great responsible holiday ideas that limit damage to local areas and contribute to the communities involved. Tel: (0)1273 600030

·     These green information sheets available with informative details for your interest and possible use.

·     Lots of books available for you to borrow on Eco living, wildlife gardening, green ideas etc, all at the back of church.

·     Lastly, there plans afoot for a St. Bridget’s Organic Kitchen Garden, part of our Eco-congregation application for 2008. Watch this space!
