ECO-CONGREGATION

Eco–Congregation is an ecumenical environmental project for churches in Britain and Ireland. It provides free resources, support and an Award scheme to help churches to consider environmental issues in the context of their Christian life and mission and to take positive action.

As we’re sure you’ve heard, St. Bridget’s have registered for the award and a team consisting of Sally Cashen, Elizabeth Ashley and Priscilla Bench-Capon have volunteered to spearhead the scheme. As the name implies, Eco–Congregation involves the congregation as a whole, and although it is headed by the team, we commit ourselves as a whole to take part in this award. Already individuals have approached us with great ideas of their own, which they are willing to put into action and run themselves for the benefit of us all, -  details will follow at a later date! If anyone else has ideas or information they want to share concerning the relative issues as the award progresses, please don’t hesitate to shout.

One of the modules which we are pursuing is titled Green Choices.  This section helps individuals to think about their personal lifestyle and to make choices that reflect a care for the earth and respect for their neighbours around the world. Some of these choices will save money too!  We are endeavouring to produce an A5 sheet once a month with interesting and valuable information concerning how you can “green” your lifestyle. Items may relate to the home, holidays, travel, recycling, purchases, even banking! Our aim is to provide information and contacts so you can make informed changes to your lifestyle, should you feel it necessary.

In time, there will be an Eco–Congregation file available at the back of church in the library section, from which you can copy information or add to if need be.

We will also be pursuing Module 9 -  Planting and Conserving Eden - which has a head start due to the wonderful progress in our conservation graveyard, and Module 6 – Exploring God’s Green Word - the resources here being utilised by some of the house groups.
